Wildway Crew Stories: Delaney Miller (Climbing)

Our Wildway Crew highlights ordinary people doing extraordinary things.

Within each of us lies the potential to live life to the fullest. We have the ability to choose our own destiny, live without fear or limits, challenge ourselves and grow, do and be whatever makes us happy. We have the ability to be free. It's how you live a Wildway of life and there are people all around us inspiring others with their actions. We want to celebrate that by highlighting and honoring those who #LiveWild.

Meet Delaney. She's a professional climber who made the USA team her first year and now has TWELVE championship titles under her belt.  She believes if you put good things in, you get good things out, and we couldn't agree more.

Here is Delaney's story in her own words:

"My Wildway of Life is climbing.

I was lucky enough to discover my Wildway of Life when I was twelve. I first tried when I was twelve after going to a friend’s birthday party at a climbing gym. I was instantly hooked. I knew as soon as I did it that it was something I wanted to be doing for the rest of my life.  My parents signed me up for the local competitive team at this after school kids club.

That’s how it all started.

I was the kid that showed up early and left late from practice. I could never get enough. I really loved the unique physical and mental challenge of getting to the top of the wall. It’s a sport that requires coordination, problem solving abilities, and strength.

I practiced and practiced and made the USA Climbing Team within my first year.

So, for the last eleven years, I’ve been living my Wildway of Life. My passion for the sport has continued to grow. I’ve since earned 12 Championship titles between youth and adult Nationals and Pan-American competitions. When competitions and statistics are involved, it’s easy to get wrapped up in the end results, but I’ve learned the value of giving it your all and accepting nothing in return. For that reason, I’m most proud of myself for just continuing to compete and put myself out there, even when the situation was not ideal.

In addition to competing, I also spend time outdoors. I have gone on several expeditions to do iconic routes around the world.

When I’m at home in Dallas, I coach a competitive youth team, teach clinics, and write the Health section in Gym Climber Magazine.

I’m inspired by people that work to do something bigger than themselves.  I climb professionally not only because I love the sport but also to use my following to promote the organizations and people that make the world a better place.

My Wildway of Life has given me a new perspective of the world around me. I have a deeper appreciation of the effects of a healthy lifestyle. If you put good things in, you get good things out.

I’ve learned that this philosophy goes both for how I feel and my impact on the environment. I am plant-based and I steer away from both sugar and processed foods. I’m vegan because I want to reduce my carbon footprint, help conserve water and land, and protect animals. Since becoming vegan, I feel lighter and stronger. I think if you put good things into your body, you get good things out of it. In addition to only eating plants, I also avoid sugar as much as possible. Wildway Grain-free Granola, specifically the Apple Cinnamon, is my favorite snack because it’s tasty but still has ingredients I feel good about.

I hope to use my lifestyle to inspire others to be their best selves while be conscious of the world we live in."
